RIP Steve Gerber

And just to hit a maudlin note, I just found out great comics creator Steve Gerber passed away, and I am muchly bummed. Gerber's best creations include Omega The Unknown (currently being revived by novelist Jonathan Lethem), Hard Time, Nevada, and most famously, Howard The Duck, which was a brilliantly weird piece of satire that had nothing to do with the infamously horrible movie made of it in the 80's.

(He also did a great, incredibly creepy Superman mini-series called Phantom Zone which is totally forgotten now and can probably be purchased at most comic book stores for less than a Happy Meal, but was one of my favorite comics as a kid. You know how when you're a kid there's always a movie or a book or something that really creeps you out but you can't stop watching/reading it again and again? Yeah.)

Well, anyway, for the majority of you who don't read comics, I'll just say that Nevada was based on a one-off joke from Howard The Duck about a stripper and an ostrich fighting a man with a lamp for a head.

It was even more fun than it sounds.
